Sugar-cane vinasse

In the municipality of Vitória de Santo Antão, State of Pernambuco, the first power plant to generate energy through biodigestion of sugar-cane vinasse was opened by Cetrel, with Dresser-Rand Guascor playing a key role in the project.

We installed a 900kW SFGLD480 generator set. The electricity generated by the engine is sold on the free energy market.

How does it work? Vinasse is a by-product of the sugar-cane distillation process, which is used to produce ethanol. Since it is a liquid that is rich in organic matter, when it undergoes biodigestion, a gas with a high methane content is generated, making it a great source of energy.

This biogas is used as fuel in engines, thus generating clean, sustainable energy.
